How does Angenta Tablet work?

Angenta Tablet is a combination medication containing Flupentixol (0.5mg) and Melitracen (10mg), used primarily in the treatment of mild to moderate depression and anxiety. Flupentixol is a first-generation antipsychotic that works by blocking dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain, exhibiting anti-depressant effects at lower doses. Melitracen is a tricyclic antidepressant that acts on multiple brain pathways to increase the levels of certain neurotransmitters, reducing the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Indication of Angenta Tablet

Flupenthixol+Melitracen is used in the treatment of depression.

Pharmacology

Flupentixol, a thioxanthene antipsychotic, reduces dopamine activity by blocking dopamine receptors. Melitracen, a tricyclic antidepressant with anxiolytic properties, increases serotonin and norepinephrine levels, improving mood and reducing anxiety.

Together in Angenta Tablet, they offer a synergistic effect, effectively treating conditions like anxiety, depression, and asthenia. However, caution and healthcare professional guidance are essential due to potential interactions and side effects.

Dosage & Administration of Angenta Tablet

• Adults typically take 2 tablets of Angenta Tablet daily, one in the morning and one at noon. In severe cases, the morning dose may be increased to 2 tablets.
• Elderly patients usually take 1 tablet in the morning. After the acute phase, the maintenance dose is usually reduced to 1 tablet in the morning.
• For cases of insomnia or severe restlessness, additional treatment with a sedative may be recommended during the acute phase.

Interaction

• It may enhance the adverse effects of drugs with antimuscarinic effects, such as tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs).
• Angenta Tablets can reduce the efficacy of levodopa, a medication used to treat Parkinson's disease.
• It can increase adverse extrapyramidal symptoms when used with dopamine antagonists like metoclopramide and prochlorperazine.
• There is a potentially fatal risk of potentiation of central nervous system effects when used with alcohol, general anesthetics, hypnotics, anxiolytics, and opioids.
• Angenta Tablets can block the antihypertensive effect of guanethidine, a medication used to treat high blood pressure.
• Additive toxicity may occur when used with other drugs with antimuscarinic and central nervous system depressant effects.
• Thyroid hormones may accelerate the response to TCAs.
• The pressure effects of sympathomimetics may be enhanced.
• There is a risk of serotonin syndrome when Angenta Tablet is taken with other antidepressants.
• The dosage of antidiabetic medications may need to be adjusted when used concomitantly with Angenta Tablet.

Contraindications

Patients with the following problems must refrain from consuming this medicine:

• Hypersensitivity
• Circulatory collapse
• Decreased level of consciousness due to any cause
• Coma
• Electroconvulsive therapy or severe depression requiring hospitalization
• Not recommended for use in manic or excited states.
• Patients with porphyrias (a kind of blood disorder where there is an accumulation of a specific protein that is a byproduct of red blood cell metabolism)
• Epilepsy
• Patients with prolactin-dependent tumors or breast cancer
• Parkinson's disease
• Narrow-angle glaucoma
• Patients with prostate enlargement
• Thyroid disorders
• Cardiac disease or arrhythmias
• Severe respiratory disease
• Kidney failure
• Myasthenia gravis
• Pheochromocytoma

Pregnancy & Lactation

Angenta Tablet should preferably not be given during pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions & Warnings

• If you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using this medication. The safety of Angenta Tablet during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established, and your doctor will weigh the potential benefits and risks before recommending its use.
• If you have a specific failure of blood circulation known as circulatory collapse, this medication should be avoided as it may worsen the condition.
• Do not use Angenta Tablet if you have a depressed level of consciousness due to any cause, such as intoxication with alcohol, opiates, or barbiturates. It may further depress the level of consciousness and lead to complications.
• Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma patients should not use this medication as it may worsen the condition.
• If you are in a coma or have blood disorders, consult your doctor before using Angenta Tablet.
• If you have phaeochromocytoma, a small vascular tumor, this medication should be avoided as it may cause adverse effects.
• If you have experienced a recent myocardial infarction (heart attack), consult your doctor before using this medication.
• If you have any degree of atrioventricular block or cardiac rhythm disorders, inform your doctor before using Angenta Tablet.
• Do not take Angenta Tablet if you are taking or have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) in the past 14 days. Combining Angenta Tablet with MAOIs may lead to a serious condition called serotonin syndrome, characterized by confusion, agitation, tremors, hyperthermia, and myoclonus.

Storage Conditions

• Store  Angenta Tablet at room temperature (10-30°C) in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat.
• Keep it away from children and pets.
• Do not use expired or damaged medicines.
• Discard any unused medicine properly, do not flush in the toilet or throw it into the drain.
